Midvaal is considered to be the new major growth node of Gauteng, with extensive commercial, industrial and residential development planned in the area. As a key link between Pretoria, Greater Johannesburg, the Vaal Triangle, the Free State and all key routes leading to the commercial centres, Midvaal is endorsed and promoted by local government as the future spatial economic development hub to invest in. Due to its prime location, the availability of water and coal, the high volumes of passing trade and Council`s pro-active and supportive approach, the growth plan is significant. The area is currently supported by leading industrial players such as Heineken Breweries, Paramount Trailers, BSI Steel, Tongaat Hulett Starch , Samancor and Ferrero Rocher chocolate factory . Nampak and Procter and Gamble currently have developments planned and as well the new Pick n Pay 30 hectare distribution centre.

MEYERTON. - November 20 of 2013 was an important morning for Midvaal and Gauteng, as the Savanna City Housing Project was finally launched.
The ceremony was held on the site in Midvaal, near Orange Farm, where the houses are soon to be built. Savanna City is a R24-billion lifestyle housing development and is one of the largest privately-initiated urban lifestyle developments of its kind in South Africa.
It is led by Basil Read (a construction company) and the Housing Impact Fund of South Africa (HIFSA), a R9-billion fund formed by Old Mutual, DBSA, GEPF and Eskom, as well as Basil Read.
The benefits for the Midvaal economy, as well as for the greater Gauteng region, will be enormous. The development will have a total economic impact of R28.4 billion during construction, together with the creation of 54 900 jobs, and a total economic impact of R12.7 billion post construction, together with the creation of 12 700 sustainable jobs.
